This page explain how to save attachments from Gmail on the local Hard Drive, and how to find that same document again.

Find Attachment in Gmail

Step 1: Navigate to Gmail

Open your Chrome browser. Click on the address bar at the top of the page. Type www.gmail.com and press the 'Enter' key on your keyboard. This will take you to the Gmail login page.   NOTE:  Most users are logged into Chrome browser, so the login will be skipped. If the user is already logged in, skip ahead to step 3.

Step 2: Log into Gmail

If you are not already logged in, you will see fields to enter your email and password. Type your email address in the first field and click 'Next'. Then, type your password in the second field and click 'Next' again to access your inbox.

Step 3: Open the Email

In your Gmail inbox, find the email that contains the attachment you want to save. Click on this email to open it and view its contents.  The email will usually show with an icon or a paperclip to let you know there is an attachment.

Step 4: Find the Attachment

Scroll down to the bottom of the email to find the attachment. It usually appears as a small icon that represents the type of file attached (e.g., a document icon).

Step 5: Save the Attachment to Hard Drive

Hover your mouse over the attachment icon. Click on the “Download” icon (typically represented by a downward arrow or diskette symbol). A message may pop up at the top right of your screen confirming the file has been downloaded to your 'Downloads' folder.

Find Downloaded File on Hard Drive

Step 6: Open File Explorer

Move your cursor to the Start menu icon in the bottom left corner of your screen and right-click on it. A menu will appear. Click on “File Explorer” to open it. This application helps you manage files and folders on your computer.

Step 7: Navigate to Downloads

In the File Explorer window, click on 'Downloads' located on the left side under 'This PC' or 'Quick Access'. This is where your downloaded files are initially saved.

Step 8: Move File to Documents

Find the downloaded file in the 'Downloads' folder. Click and hold the file, drag it over to 'Documents' listed in the left pane, and release the mouse button to move it to 'Documents'.

Step 9: Open Documents Folder

In File Explorer, click on 'Documents' located on the left side under 'This PC' or 'Quick Access'. This is where you moved your downloaded file.

Step 9: Locate Your Document

Scroll through the files or type the name of your document in the search bar at the top to quickly find your file.

Step 10: Open Your Document

Double-click on the document to open it.
